Reunion Rehabilitation Hospital Denver
Serving on the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion and Wellness Committees

“THEARI is such a positive force in our community. I’m always impressed with the caliber of professionals that make up the organization!” – Erika Kaye, Board Director
This month for our Board Spotlight, we’d like to introduce Erika Kaye. Erika works with the Reunion Rehabilitation Hospital Denver as the Chief Executive Officer. She has been a member of the THEARI Board of Directors since July of 2021, and was kind enough to answer the questions below so we, and you, could get to know her better.
Can you tell us a little bit about yourself? Where you’re from, where you live, family info (kids, pets, etc.).
I am from Denver originally but left for California for college and grad school. I then worked briefly in the Washington DC area then was recruited to North Carolina where I lived for 10 years. I met my husband there. We moved to Colorado to be near my parents (and where they could easily get their hands on our kids, identical twin sons and a daughter).
If you could plan a vacation to anywhere in the world, where would you go?
I love to travel – just about anywhere – but I do love a good beach vacation. I recently completed a 7-day “bike and barge” tour in Germany with my dad (who is 87 and in the best shape of anyone on the tour). We plan to go to Croatia next and I think I’ll bring along my husband this time!
What is one item you cannot live without?
It feels wrong/shallow/embarrassing to say my mobile device! But I absolutely love having information and connection at my fingertips. Look up a word? Lost? What happened to that band? Need a recipe? Need inspiration? What’s the weather? Play WORDL? Text a friend, maybe even CALL them? – It’s all on the mobile phone in your hand!
What is your favorite hobby?
Standard Colorado answer: Hiking. But I also like baking and cheering on my three kids at their various activities.
Can you tell us about where you work, how long you’ve been working there, what your position is, and a little bit about what you do?
I’m the CEO at Reunion Rehab Hospital Denver. It’s a new hospital that opened in March 2021, so I was hired about six months prior to oversee finishing construction, get everyone hired, and complete many, many tasks required to open a hospital and get licensed to serve patients and our community.
Why did you join the THEARI BOD?
I admire the work that is done by THEARI. The community focus is very important to me personally, and I think the mission and vision of THEARI aligns with my values.
How long have you been a member of the THEARI BOD?
Nearly one year.
Tell us about your roles professionally.
I am a speech pathologist who stumbled into leadership and administration early on in my career. I find it helpful to have a clinical background and to have worked at the hospital bedside. For me personally, I feel I make better decisions for both staff and patients having had that experience.
What is one of your favorite THEARI stories you like to tell?
It’s been interesting joining an organization that operates heavily on Zoom! I appreciate how connected the team is even while working remotely. I did love attending the strategic planning meeting in person so I could witness how people interact with each other live and get a feel for the personality of the organization. And meeting a few other board members in person was a bonus!
What is your proudest accomplishment as part of the THEARI BOD?
Simply representing the organization and sharing the good work that is being done everyday to better our communities.
What are your top three goals for THEARI in the coming year?
Fundraise, continue to learn more about the organization, encourage others in my network to become familiar with THEARI and, if applicable, maybe even apply for a spot on the board.
Is there anything else you would like our readers know?
THEARI is such a positive force in our community. I’m always impressed with the caliber of professionals that make up the organization!
