Board Spotlight: Timothy Schardt
Throughout the year we will be highlighting members of our Board of Directors. This month, we are highlighting Timothy Schardt.
When asked what his proudest accomplishment as part of the CCAHEC Board of Directors was, Timothy said, "I’m in awe at the drive and care of the CCAHEC staff. They are able to get so much done every day. They’re the ones that deserve all the credit for CCAHEC’s accomplishments."
“It’s Board members with passion like Tim has, that inspire the staff team to reach our goals. Working together, Board and staff members are able to realize our mission.” –Executive Director, Lin Browning
Can you tell us a little bit about yourself? Where you’re from, where you live, family info (kids, pets, etc.). I grew up in Minnesota and spent my college years in North Dakota. I came to Colorado to complete a specialty residency after obtaining my doctorate. I live in Littleton Colorado and am happily married with two wonderful children. They keep me busy with extracurriculars and volunteering, but they are so supportive in all my professional endeavors as well.
If you could plan a vacation to anywhere in the world, where would you go?
There are so many places I would love to go. The people I spend vacation time with are more important than the destination. I love seeing my children’s reactions and hearing about the experience from their point of view.
What is one item you cannot live without?
Coffee. I’m not a morning person, but those magic beans can kick start my day.
What is your favorite hobby?
Hiking has become my favorite hobby. It is something I can do alone as self-care or with others as a little adventure to a place I haven’t been before.
Can you tell us about where you work, how long you’ve been working there, what your position is, and a little bit about what you do?
I’m a clinical pharmacist at Children’s Hospital Colorado and have worked there for almost 15 years. I care for children and young adults that are on blood thinners. My role is to operate as a physician extender providing patients with more access and support from the healthcare team. I speak with patients regularly to address their medical needs between other healthcare team appointments and help escalate care when necessary.
Why did you join the CCAHEC BOD?
I joined CCAHEC to support my community with ways to get students interested in medical careers and find resources to act on those interests.
How long have you been a member of the CCAHEC BOD?
I have been a member of the BOD for 9 months.
Tell us about your roles professionally.
I have participated on the programs committee and moved into the role of interim director of the executive committee. I’m now turning my focus to policies committee.
What is one of your favorite CCAHEC stories you like to tell?
I’m so proud of Anastasia, a young woman who completed the Health Careers Pre-Apprenticeship program. She was able to overcome health and family circumstances that often deter others from completing educational programs. She was able to experience a variety of healthcare careers and find job opportunities at the end of the program.
What is your proudest accomplishment as part of the CCAHEC BOD?
What are your top three goals for CCAHEC in the coming year?
Establishing new connections with partners with similar missions.
Being involved in more community events.
Supporting more students interested in healthcare careers.
