Poker is a card game played between two or more players and involves betting. A player with the highest ranking hand wins the pot – all the chips placed in that hand during that round. The game can be played in various ways and has many variants. There are a few key things to remember when playing poker:

To start, each player buys in for a set number of chips. A white chip is usually worth the minimum ante or bet, and other colored chips have different values. For example, a blue chip may be worth five whites.

A player’s turn begins when they have a choice of actions: call, raise, or fold. Calling means putting in a bet of equal value to the last one, while raising means betting higher than the previous player. Folding is surrendering the hand and losing any bets that have been placed so far.

The dealer will deal the cards out in sets and create a community pile. Once the betting is complete he will put down three more cards that everyone can use. These are called the flop.

From here the players will bet on their hands and try to make the best hand possible. The winner of the hand is the player with the highest ranked hand or the person who continues to bet and win bets from other players until they have a better hand. Often, luck plays a huge role in poker but there are also strategies and bluffing that can improve your odds.
